After graduating from high school, Collins received a scholarship to attend the University of Tulsa, where he continued his football career as a linebacker. During his college career, Collins played in 32 games, recorded 236 tackles, 7 sacks, 5 interceptions, and 2 forced fumbles. He also won the Bronko Nagurski Trophy and the Chuck Bednarik Award in 2020, which are both given to the best defensive players in college football.

Following his successful collegiate career, Collins was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals as the 16th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. He signed a four-year contract with the team and made his NFL debut on September 12, 2021, in a game against the Tennessee Titans. In his first season, Collins has already made a significant impact on the field, recording 44 tackles, 3 sacks, and 1 interception in his first 8 games.
