Bob Charles was born in Carterton, New Zealand, in 1936. After growing up in a farming family, he developed a love for golf as a child and began playing regularly. Charles is best known for his successful career as a professional golfer. His defining moment came in 1963 when he won the British Open, becoming the first left-handed golfer to win a major championship.
