Gary’s professional career began in 1971, and in his early years he played on mini-tours in the western United States before joining the PGA Tour in 1977. He won two events on the PGA Tour in his career, but is perhaps best known for his colorful commentary, which he provided while working for CBS Sports for over 30 years. His career as a commentator started in 1986, and his famous voice made him a recognizable figure for golf enthusiasts around the world.

Gary McCord’s contributions to golf have gone beyond just playing and commentating. He is also an author, having written several books on golf, including “Golf for Dummies” and “Just a Range Ball in a Box of Titleists”. He has also added to golf’s history by creating his own putter, the Gary McCord “Funstick”.
