William Williams Autograph

William Williams (1731-1811) was a prominent political leader and signer of the Declaration of Independence. Born in Lebanon, Connecticut, Williams was the son of a prominent Puritan minister and received a classical education at Harvard College. After graduating, he returned to Connecticut to practice medicine and became involved in local politics. In the 1760s, Williams emerged as a leading voice against British imperialism, and he was elected to the Continental Congress in 1776. During his tenure, Williams signed the Declaration of Independence, and he later served as a delegate to the Constitutional Convention, where he helped draft the United States Constitution.
