Al Iafrate Autographs
Al Iafrate is a former professional ice hockey player who played with several National Hockey League (NHL) teams during his career. Born on March 21, 1966, in Dearborn, Michigan, Iafrate started his hockey career at a young age and eventually played for the US National Junior Team in 1984. He was also the top defenseman of the United States Hockey League (USHL) All-Star team in the same year. Iafrate played his college hockey at Michigan State University and by 1984, he was drafted fourth overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Iafrate played for several teams in the NHL, including the Toronto Maple Leafs, Washington Capitals, Boston Bruins, and San Jose Sharks. He is best known for his powerful slap shot, often clocking in at over 100 miles per hour. As a result, he won the NHL's hardest shot competition three times between 1990 and 1993. Iafrate also represented the United States of America at the 1998 Winter Olympics, where he was a member of the American team that won the silver medal.
Despite his successful hockey career, Iafrate's stint with the San Jose Sharks was cut short due to injuries. He retired from the NHL in 1998 with over 800 games played, 152 goals, and 311 assists. Nonetheless, he remained an active part of the hockey community, working as an NHL analyst and participating in various charity events. Iafrate's legacy as a hockey player continues to live on, being recognized as one of the greatest defensemen to ever play the game.
