Alexander Mogilny Autographs
Alexander Mogilny, born on February 18, 1969, is a retired Russian ice hockey right winger who played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for 16 seasons. During his prime, he was considered one of the best players in the league, renowned for his speed, agility, and scoring ability. He began his professional career at the age of 16 in the Soviet Union and quickly became a star player. In 1989, after leading the USSR team to victory at the World Junior Championships, Mogilny defected to the United States while playing with his team in New York City.
After his defection, Mogilny was drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in the fifth round of the 1988 NHL Entry Draft. He went on to play his first NHL game in 1989 and quickly established himself as a prolific scorer. He spent his early years in the league with the Sabres, where he was named to the All-Star team four times and was the runner-up for the Hart Trophy in 1993. During that same year, he also became the first Russian player to score 70 goals in a season.
Mogilny went on to play for several other teams in the NHL, including the Vancouver Canucks, New Jersey Devils, and Toronto Maple Leafs. He retired from professional hockey in 2006, having played in 990 games, scoring 473 goals and tallying 559 assists. Throughout his career, he won several trophies and awards, including the Lady Byng Trophy and the Stanley Cup with the Devils in 2000. Mogilny's outstanding career cemented his legacy in the NHL and made him a beloved figure among hockey fans.
