Stanley played for the New York Rangers from 1948 to 1955 and then played for the Boston Bruins from 1955 to 1958 before being traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs. It was with the Toronto Maple Leafs where Stanley had an impressive career that earned him the nickname "Snowshoes." He played as a defenseman for the Maple Leafs from 1958 to 1968 and won four Stanley Cup championships with the team. Stanley was known for his excellent shot-blocking ability and was one of the best defensemen of his time.

Allan Stanley ended his hockey career with the Philadelphia Flyers in 1969 after playing for countries like Canada and Scotland. He retired with 100 goals and 333 assists in 1,244 NHL games that spanned over 22 seasons.
