Eriksson began his professional hockey career in his native Sweden in 1992 playing for the Bollnäs HC team. He moved to the North America league in 1994 and was signed as a free agent by the Detroit Red Wings, making his NHL debut in the 1995-96 season. He played for the Red Wings team until 2001, winning two Stanley Cups in 1997 and 1998. He later played for teams such as the Chicago Blackhawks, Columbus Blue Jackets, Florida Panthers, and Calgary Flames. In 2006-07, he represented Sweden in the World Championships, finishing with a silver medal.

Anders Eriksson played in 486 NHL games, scoring 17 goals and 59 assists, accumulating a total of 401 penalty minutes. Eriksson had a great career that spanned over 20 years, playing in the Swedish Hockey League, the NHL, and the Kontinental Hockey League. After retiring as a player, Eriksson became a hockey coach in Sweden, then later became a real estate agent. He is now known to be one of the best Swedish defenseman to ever play in the NHL.
