He was born on October 30, 1982, in Trenton, Michigan, and attended Miami University before beginning his hockey career. He was initially undrafted, but he signed a free-agent contract with the New Jersey Devils in 2006 and went on to spend the majority of his career playing for the team.
Greene started his NHL career with the Devils during the 2006-2007 season, where he learned to become an impactful defenseman. As a player, he was talented in both offense and defense.
