Benoit Hogue is a former Canadian professional ice hockey player who was born on October 28, 1966, in Repentigny, Quebec. He began his junior career with the Trois-Rivieres Draveurs of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) in 1984. Hogue went on to play for the Sabres for six seasons, where he was known for his defensive play, penalty killing, and physicality on the ice. In 1991, he was traded to the New York Islanders, where he experienced a career breakthrough. During his tenure with the Islanders, Hogue witnessed the team's worst-to-first run in the 1992-1993 season, and he quickly became one of the all-time fan favorites due to his relentless work ethic, tremendous skill, and leadership.

Hogue would later play for the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Dallas Stars, and the Phoenix Coyotes before calling it a career in 2003. In an NHL career that spanned over 1000 games, he totaled 219 goals, 287 assists, and 506 points. His accomplishments in the league are evidence of his great contributions to the sport of hockey, and he will always be celebrated as one of the pioneers of the game.
