Bernie Federko

Bernie Federko is a former Canadian professional ice hockey centerman who played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for 13 seasons, before retiring in 1990. Born on May 12, 1956, in Foam Lake, Saskatchewan, Federko was drafted seventh overall by the St. Louis Blues in the 1976 NHL Amateur Draft. He played his first professional season in the Central Hockey League for the Kansas City Blues before moving up to the Blues in 1978. Federko proved to be a formidable centerman for the Blues, leading the team in scoring for five seasons and serving as team captain from 1988-1989. More about Bernie Federko

Federko was known for his astute playmaking, unmatched speed, and accurate shots, which made him a fierce competitor on the ice. During his time with the Blues, he consistently achieved high-scoring seasons, amassing 1,130 points in 927 games, which included 352 goals and 778 assists. Federko's excellent performance earned him numerous accolades, including six NHL All-Star selections, two Lady Byng Memorial Trophies as the league's most gentlemanly player, and the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award for his broadcasting work in 2002.

After his retirement, Federko returned to the NHL as a broadcaster, serving as an analyst as well as a color commentator for several networks including Fox Sports Midwest and the NHL Network. As a notable member of the St. Louis Blues, Federko's jersey number, 24, was retired in his honor in 1991, and he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2002.
