Bernie Parent

Bernie Parent is considered one of the greatest NHL goaltenders of all time. He was born on April 3, 1945, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Parent was signed by the Boston Bruins in 1963 and made his NHL debut in 1965. He was then traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs but played only one game for the team. In 1967, Parent was selected by the Philadelphia Flyers in the NHL Expansion Draft. He quickly established himself as the team's starting goaltender and led the Flyers to the playoffs for the first time in franchise history. More about Bernie Parent

In the 1973-74 season, Parent had one of the most exceptional seasons of any NHL goalie, winning the Vezina and Conn Smythe trophies. He helped the Flyers win their first Stanley Cup and repeated the feat again in 1975. The Flyers became the first expansion team to win the Stanley Cup in consecutive years, and Parent became the first goaltender to win the Conn Smythe Trophy in consecutive seasons. He was a four-time NHL All-Star and was a six-time finalist for the Vezina Trophy. Parent ended his career with 232 wins and a GAA of 2.55. His number, 1, was retired by the Flyers in 1979, and he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1984.

Injuries forced Parent into retirement in 1979, but he remained involved in the sport as a broadcaster, team executive, and instructor. He has coached goaltenders in the NHL, served as an analyst for hockey broadcasts, and was a popular speaker at hockey banquets and events. He has also been active in local charities, including the Bernie Parent Charitable Foundation. In 2013, Parent was honored with a sculpture outside the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, home of the Flyers, along with fellow Flyers greats Bobby Clarke and Bill Barber. Bernie Parent's contribution to NHL history will never be forgotten, and he will always be known for his incredible skill, dedication, and passion for the sport.
