Bob Baun Autographs
Bob Baun was a former Canadian professional ice hockey player, born on September 9, 1936, in Lanigan, Saskatchewan. He began his National Hockey League (NHL) career with the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 1956-57 season, where he quickly established himself as a tenacious defenseman who would do whatever it takes to help his team win. Baun's toughness and durability earned him the nickname "Boomer" as he often cleared the puck with tremendous force that would shake the boards behind the net.
Throughout his career, Baun was considered one of the best defensemen in the NHL. He was an integral member of the Toronto Maple Leafs team that won four Stanley Cup championships from 1962-1967. Baun became widely known for his heroic performance in the 1964 Stanley Cup Finals when he broke his ankle by tripping over a teammate and left the ice for X-rays. However, he returned to the ice in the third period, with his ankle heavily taped, and scored the game-winning goal in overtime against the Detroit Red Wings.
Baun played more than 15 NHL seasons with different teams, finishing his career with the Oakland Seals in 1973. Aside from his four Stanley Cup Championships, he registered 37 goals and 203 assists in 964 NHL games, recording 1,301 penalty minutes. In 1986, Bob Baun was inducted into the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame, recognizing his significant contributions to ice hockey. His never-give-up attitude and willingness to fight for his team made him an all-time fan favorite.
