Bob Froese Autographs
Bob Froese was a Canadian ice hockey goaltender who was born on June 30, 1958, in St. Catharines, Ontario. Froese played major junior hockey for the St. Catharines Fincups, then he was drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in the fifth round, 101st overall, in the 1978 NHL Entry Draft. After playing in the American Hockey League (AHL), he debuted with the Flyers on October 9, 1982, and played in 52 games that season, going 31-10-3 with a 2.43 goals against average (GAA) and .906 save percentage (SV%). Froese was a strong and aggressive goalie who was known for his puck-handling ability.
Froese's best years in the NHL came between 1983 and 1986 when he was the Flyers' starting goaltender. He helped the team reach the Stanley Cup Finals in 1985, although they ultimately fell short to the Edmonton Oilers. Froese then moved to the New York Rangers in 1986 and played three seasons there. He then had a brief stint with the Quebec Nordiques before ending his NHL career in 1991. In 355 NHL games, Froese won 128 games, had a 3.21 GAA, and a .885 SV%.
After retiring from professional hockey, Froese became a coach and worked with the Philadelphia Phantoms, the Flyers' AHL affiliate. He helped them win the Calder Cup championship in 1998 and was also named the AHL's Coach of the Year that season. Froese passed away on October 27, 2015, at the age of 57 after suffering from cancer. His impressive career as a goaltender and contributions to coaching demonstrate his dedication to the sport of hockey.
