Kelly was known for his impressive speed and his ability to put the puck in the net. He was a key player for the Flyers during the 1970s, playing alongside other legendary players such as Bobby Clarke and Bernie Parent. He won two Stanley Cup championships during his time with the team, in 1974 and 1975. Kelly was also known for his toughness on the ice, and he was not afraid to do battle with opponents who tried to intimidate him or his teammates.

Kelly retired in 1981 after playing in 846 career NHL games, scoring 154 goals and 205 assists. He went on to work in various positions within the Flyers organization, including as a scout and assistant coach. Kelly was inducted into the Philadelphia Flyers Hall of Fame in 1991, recognizing his contributions to the team during his playing career. He remains a beloved figure in the hockey world and is remembered as one of the all-time greats for the Philadelphia Flyers.
