Brandon Montour is a professional ice hockey player from Ontario, Canada, who currently plays as a defenseman for the Buffalo Sabres in the National Hockey League (NHL). He was born on April 11, 1994, and grew up playing hockey in his hometown of Ohsweken, where he started his career in the Junior B level with the Six Nations Rebels. Montour honed his skills and made his way through the ranks, playing for various teams in junior and college hockey, including Waterloo Black Hawks in the United States Hockey League (USHL) and the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
In 2014, Montour was drafted by the Anaheim Ducks in the second round, 55th overall, and became a promising prospect for the team. He made his NHL debut in December 2016 and played in 27 games that season, scoring two goals and eight assists, while displaying his impressive skating, puck-moving, and offensive abilities. Montour played for the Ducks for nearly three seasons before he was traded to the Sabres in February 2019, where he signed a two-year contract extension in 2020. He has since been a key player for the Sabres, tallying 20 points and averaging over 20 minutes of ice time per game in his first season with the team, and being a reliable force on the blue line.
Montour has also represented his country, Canada, in international hockey tournaments, including the World Junior Championships, the Spengler Cup, and the World Championships.
