After a successful stint with the Lancers, Lebda attended Notre Dame, where he played college hockey for four seasons. Following his time at Notre Dame, Brett Lebda signed with the Detroit Red Wings in 2004 as an undrafted free agent. Lebda went on to play for the Red Wings for four years and helped them win the Stanley Cup in 2008. He also played for the Toronto Maple Leafs and Columbus Blue Jackets before announcing his retirement in 2012.

Lebda was appreciated for his solid skating, sound positioning, and ability to move the puck up the ice. His skating skills helped him to thrive and excel as a defenseman in the NHL.
