Brian Holzinger Autographs
Brian Holzinger was born in Parma, Ohio in 1972. He grew up playing hockey, and was a standout player during his time at St. Ignatius High School in Cleveland, Ohio. After graduating in 1990, Holzinger played two seasons for the Cleveland Jr. Barons of the North American Hockey League before moving on to the college ranks.
In 1992, Holzinger began his college career at Bowling Green State University. He quickly established himself as one of the best players in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association, earning CCHA Rookie of the Year honors in 1992-93. He continued to perform at a high level throughout his college career, leading Bowling Green to the NCAA tournament in each of his four seasons. In 1995-96, he was named CCHA Player of the Year and was a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award, given annually to the top college hockey player in the United States.
Following a standout college career, Holzinger was selected by the Buffalo Sabres in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut with the Sabres in 1995 and quickly became a fan favorite. Over the course of his 13-year NHL career, Holzinger also played for the Tampa Bay Lightning, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Columbus Blue Jackets. He was known as a hardworking, versatile forward who could play both center and wing, and he tallied 97 goals and 179 assists in 547 career NHL games. Holzinger retired from professional hockey in 2008 and currently works as a youth hockey coach in Ohio.
