Brian Rafalski is a retired American professional ice hockey player. Born on September 28, 1973, Rafalski was raised in Dearborn, Michigan. He started playing hockey when he was just five years old and later played for the University of Wisconsin-Madison for four years. In 1995, he was signed by the Finnish hockey team, HIFK Helsinki. Rafalski’s NHL career began with the New Jersey Devils in the 1999-2000 season. He quickly gained a reputation as a skilled and smart defenseman, and helped the Devils to win the Stanley Cup in his first season with the team. Rafalski continued to play for the Devils until 2007, when he signed a five-year contract with the Detroit Red Wings. He was instrumental in leading the Red Wings to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2008 and 2009, and helped the team to capture the Cup in 2008. In addition to his NHL career, Rafalski also represented Team USA in international competitions, winning the silver medal at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.

Rafalski announced his retirement from professional hockey in 2011. During his career, he was a three-time NHL All-Star, a two-time Stanley Cup champion, and a two-time Olympic medalist. Rafalski was known for his speed, agility, and offensive skills on the ice, and was regarded as one of the best American-born defenseman in NHL history.
