Bryan Rust was born on May 11, 1992, in Pontiac, Michigan. He developed a love for hockey at a young age and began playing organized hockey at the age of four. Rust played for the Honeybaked Hockey Club in Detroit and later joined the United States National Team Development Program. In 2010, he was selected for the USHL All-Rookie Team.
