Budd Lynch Autographs
Budd Lynch, born on April 24, 1917, was a legendary personality in the world of ice hockey. He was a man of many hats in his long and successful career, spanning over seventy years. However, he is primarily known for his contribution as a play-by-play broadcaster for the Detroit Red Wings. Lynch's association with the Detroit Red Wings started in the early 1940s when he was hired as a public address announcer at the Olympia Stadium. Later, he started doing play-by-play commentary for the team and remained in that role until his retirement in 2012. Lynch was known for his unique commentary style and signature phrase "He shoots, he scores!"
Apart from working as a broadcaster, Lynch also served in the Canadian Army during World War II. He was injured in the Battle of Normandy and lost his right arm below the elbow. After recovering from the injury, he returned to Detroit and resumed his broadcasting career. In recognition of his contribution to the Red Wings, the team retired Lynch's microphone during a ceremony in 2006. Lynch was also inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1985 as a recipient of the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award, which is presented to outstanding hockey broadcasters.
Budd Lynch was not only an iconic figure in the world of hockey but also a beloved personality in the city of Detroit. He was famous for his charity work and was known to be a kind-hearted man. Lynch passed away on October 9, 2012, at the age of 95. The Detroit Red Wings paid tribute to him by wearing a patch with his initials, "BH," on their jerseys for the 2012-13 NHL season. Lynch's legacy lives on and continues to inspire future generations of hockey broadcasters and fans.
