Cesare Maniago Autographs

Cesare "Hail" Maniago is a retired Canadian ice hockey goaltender. Born on January 13, 1939, in Trail, British Columbia, he began his hockey journey with the Trail Smoke Eaters of the Western International Hockey League. He was signed by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1960, and debuted with the team in the 1961-1962 season. Maniago played for several teams in the National Hockey League (NHL) during his 16-year career, including the Montreal Canadiens, Minnesota North Stars, and Vancouver Canucks.
Maniago's career highlights include leading the Toronto Maple Leafs to the 1963 Stanley Cup Finals, a remarkable accomplishment for a rookie goaltender. During the 1967 expansion draft, he was selected by Minnesota North Stars, where he became the team's first veteran and had the most appearances by any goaltender, playing 42 games in the 1967-68 season. Maniago spent six seasons with the North Stars and was considered a fan favorite, known for his ability to keep the team in games and for his friendly personality off the ice. He was also recognized for his sportsmanship, receiving the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy in 1975 for perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to hockey.
After retiring from hockey, Maniago became a goaltending coach for several NHL teams, including the Vancouver Canucks and the Boston Bruins. He also returned to his hometown to coach the Trail Smoke Eaters and was inducted into the Trail Sports Hall of Fame. In 2016, Maniago was recognized as one of the "100 Greatest NHL Players" in history, a testament to his successful and impactful career in hockey.
