In 1998, Drury was drafted by the Colorado Avalanche and began his NHL career with the team. He played with the Avalanche for three seasons and was a key player in the team's Stanley Cup victory in 2001. Drury then went on to play with the Calgary Flames, Buffalo Sabres, and New York Rangers over the course of his career. He was known for his leadership abilities and was named captain of both the Sabres and the Rangers.

Drury's hockey career was filled with accomplishments and awards. He was named the Calder Memorial Trophy winner for the NHL's best rookie in 1999 and was a two-time NHL All-Star. Drury also represented the United States in several international tournaments, including the Olympics, where he won a silver medal in 2002 and a bronze medal in 2010.
