Chuck Rayner Autographs
Chuck Rayner was born in Sutherland, Saskatchewan on August 11, 1920. He was a Canadian ice hockey goaltender who played professionally for more than 14 years in the National Hockey League (NHL). Rayner began his hockey career playing with the Moose Jaw Canucks in the early 1940s. He was quickly recognized for his extraordinary talent and signed with the New York Rangers in 1945.
Rayner's NHL career with the Rangers was a remarkable one. He played in 10 NHL seasons, appearing in 9 All-Star games, and was named the league’s most valuable player in the 1949-1950 season. Rayner set a standard for excellence that few goalies could reach, and his nickname “Bulletproof” was well-deserved; he was a force to be reckoned with when defending the Rangers' net. Rayner eventually retired from the NHL after the 1952-1953 season, but not before leaving his mark on the league as one of the best goaltenders of his time.
After retiring from the NHL, Rayner spent some time coaching minor league teams before eventually retiring from the game altogether to become a car salesman. He reflected on his career as a goaltender in his memoir "Between the Pipes," which was published in 1997. Rayner passed away just a year later, on October 6, 1998, leaving behind a legacy as one of the greats in NHL history, and as a player who excelled on the ice and redefined the role of the goaltender.
