Connor Hellebuyck is a professional ice hockey goaltender from the United States. He was born on May 19, 1993, in Commerce, Michigan. Hellebuyck began playing hockey at a young age and quickly proved to be a talented player. He played in the NAHL for the Odessa Jackalopes before committing to play college hockey at the University of Massachusetts Lowell.
At UMass Lowell, Hellebuyck played for two seasons and proved to be a standout goaltender. After his sophomore season, he signed with the Winnipeg Jets of the NHL. Hellebuyck played his first NHL game on November 22, 2015, against the Minnesota Wild. He played 26 games in his rookie season but struggled with consistency. In the 2016-17 season, Hellebuyck was named the starting goaltender for the Jets and had a breakout year. He finished the season with a 26-19-4 record, a .907 save percentage, and four shutouts.
Since his breakout season, Hellebuyck has established himself as one of the top goaltenders in the NHL. He was named to the NHL All-Star Game in 2018, and 2019 and was a finalist for the Vezina Trophy, awarded to the league's best goaltender, in 2020. In the 2019-20 season, Hellebuyck led the NHL in shots faced, saves made, and played in 58 out of Winnipeg's 71 games. He finished the season with a .922 save percentage and six shutouts. Hellebuyck's success on the ice has made him a crucial player for the Winnipeg Jets and a key player in the NHL.
