Craig Janney is a former NHL player who left a significant impact on the sport of hockey. He was born on September 26, 1967, in Hartford, Connecticut, and began his hockey career at the age of six. Following his time at Enfield High School, Janney attended Boston College, where he played college hockey for three seasons before being drafted in 1986 by the Boston Bruins.
Janney spent a total of 12 seasons in the NHL and played for six different teams, including the Boston Bruins, St. Louis Blues, San Jose Sharks, Winnipeg Jets/Phoenix Coyotes, Tampa Bay Lightning, and New York Islanders. He is considered one of the most skilled playmakers ever to play the game, totaling 563 assists and 751 points in 760 games, proving to be a dominant force in the league. He led the Blues in scoring for six consecutive seasons and was named to the NHL All-Rookie Team in 1988. Janney’s scoring prowess and ability to create scoring opportunities made him a fan favorite throughout his career.
Janney ended his hockey career with the New York Islanders in 1999, after 12 seasons, amassing 188 goals and 563 assists. He went on to be a color commentator for the St. Louis Blues and was inducted into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame in 2017.
