Dan Blackburn Autographs
Dan Blackburn is a former Canadian ice hockey goaltender. Born on May 18, 1983, in Montreal, Quebec, Blackburn played competitive hockey from an early age. He was drafted into the Ontario Hockey League by the Kitchener Rangers in 1999 and played there until 2001. In his rookie year with the Rangers, he had a save percentage of 0.912 and was named to the OHL's All-Rookie team. In the 2000-2001 season, Blackburn was outstanding, with a save percentage of 0.915 and his team reached the Memorial Cup final. Blackburn's talent was recognized when he was the first goaltender selected in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft by the New York Rangers.
Blackburn made his debut as an NHL goaltender in 2001, making him the youngest Ranger goalie to ever play in an NHL game at the age of 18. He played two seasons with the Rangers before a nerve injury to his left shoulder ended his career. Blackburn's NHL career stats are impressive, with a total of 63 games played, a record of 20-28-10, and a save percentage of 0.894. Despite injury cutting his career short, Blackburn's talent as a goaltender both in the OHL and in the NHL is something that is still highly regarded amongst hockey fans to this day.
After retiring from professional hockey, Blackburn worked with numerous hockey programs in developing young goaltenders. He was hired by USA Hockey as a goaltending coordinator in 2019, working with junior, collegiate, and professional goalies as an advisor on all aspects of their game. Blackburn's contributions to the sport, both as a player and as a mentor, are highly valued among the hockey community, and his legacy as a highly talented goaltender remains to this day.
