Dan Cleary is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player who was born on December 18, 1978, in Carbonear, Newfoundland, Canada. As a child, Cleary showed a deep passion for hockey and began playing at a young age. He played minor hockey for the Notre Dame Hounds in Wilcox, Saskatchewan, then moved on to the Portland Winterhawks of the Western Hockey League, where he played for two seasons. Cleary's professional hockey career began in 1997 when he was drafted 13th overall by the Chicago Blackhawks in the NHL Entry Draft. He began his NHL journey with the Blackhawks but played the majority of his career for the Detroit Red Wings. Cleary became a vibrant forward and played an essential role in helping the Detroit Red Wings win their eleventh Stanley Cup in 2008. For his stellar performance, Cleary was named as the Red Wings’ player of the playoffs.

Dan Cleary's hockey career spanned over 17 years, playing 938 regular-season games and scoring 165 goals and 221 assists. He had 42 goals and 68 assists in 115 playoff games. Cleary announced his retirement from professional hockey in 2017, stating that he has been living his dream, and it's the right time to retire.
