Dana Murzyn was born on December 9, 1966, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He is a retired professional ice hockey player who played as a defenseman. Murzyn started his hockey career with the Kamloops Blazers in the Western Hockey League. He was the third overall pick by the Vancouver Canucks in the 1985 NHL Entry Draft. During his career, Murzyn played in 838 regular season games, totaling 1,312 penalty minutes, and 16 playoff games. His best year came during the 1991-92 season when Murzyn played in all 80 games and recorded nine goals, 25 assists, and 204 penalty minutes. He was known for being a physical defenseman who could hit hard and fight when needed. Murzyn was a member of the Canucks team that made it to the Stanley Cup finals in 1994, but they lost in seven games to the New York Rangers.

After retiring from the NHL in 1999, Murzyn became involved in coaching and scouting. He worked as an assistant coach for the Prince George Cougars in the WHL and then later became a scout for the Calgary Flames. Murzyn also ran his business, Pro Hockey Life Hockey Academy, which held instructional camps and clinics for young hockey players.
