Darcy Wakaluk Autographs
Darcy Wakaluk was a Canadian professional ice-hockey goaltender, born on November 14, 1966, in Pincher Creek, Alberta. He started his hockey career in the Western Hockey League (WHL) with the Swift Current Broncos in the 1984-85 season. He then played for the Lethbridge Hurricanes, Moose Jaw Warriors, and Medicine Hat Tigers before being drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in 1985.
Wakaluk played his first NHL game for the Buffalo Sabres in the 1988-89 season, where he played 29 games in his rookie year. Wakaluk played for the Sabres from 1988 to 1992 and recorded a career-best 22 wins in the 1991-92 season. He then played for the Dallas Stars (1992-93), Phoenix Coyotes (1995-96), Chicago Blackhawks (1996-97), and the NHL's first-ever expansion team, the Atlanta Thrashers (1999-00). However, he couldn't replicate the success he enjoyed in his early years with Buffalo as he struggled with consistency and injuries throughout his career. Wakaluk retired from professional hockey in 2001.
After hanging up his skates, Wakaluk pursued a career in coaching. He coached minor hockey teams in Dallas, Texas, and also served as a goaltending coach for the Kootenay Ice of the Western Hockey League. Wakaluk was also inducted into the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame in 2017, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the sport of hockey. He is remembered as one of the best goaltenders of his era, who made some incredible saves in his heyday while keeping the opposition at bay with his athleticism and skill.
