Darryl Sutter is a former professional hockey player and coach who has contributed significantly to the sport. The 62-year-old Sutter was born in Alberta, Canada, on August 19, 1958. He played junior hockey for Lethbridge Broncos and Red Deer Rustlers before making his way into the NHL through the Chicago Blackhawks in the early 1980s. Sutter played for the Blackhawks for over five seasons before moving on to the St. Louis Blues and followed by the Boston Bruins where he would spend his last two seasons before retiring. As a coach, Sutter is best known for his championship-winning seasons with the Los Angeles Kings. He became the head coach of the Kings in 2011 and in his first full season, he led the team to their first-ever Stanley Cup title. Sutter's style of coaching is known to be intense and straightforward, which resonated well with the Kings, who went on to win another Stanley Cup under his tenure in 2014. Throughout his coaching career, Sutter also had stints with the San Jose Sharks and the Calgary Flames.

Sutter's family has been heavily involved in hockey, with six of his brothers playing professionally in the NHL, and one of them serving as his assistant coach with the Kings. He has four children, and his son Brett is a current professional player in the minor leagues. Sutter is known to be a respected figure in the hockey community for his passion for the sport and dedication to his team.
