Dave Semenko Autographs
Dave Semenko was a Canadian ice hockey player and enforcer who played professionally from 1977 to 1988. He is best known for his time with the Edmonton Oilers, where he played alongside Wayne Gretzky during the team's dynasty years in the 1980s. Semenko was a vital part of the team's success, using his physicality and fighting skills to protect Gretzky and other star players on the ice.
Semenko was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1957 and began playing hockey at a young age. He was drafted by the Minnesota North Stars in 1977, but was traded to the Edmonton Oilers shortly thereafter. It was with the Oilers that Semenko truly made a name for himself, both as a player and as a beloved member of the team. Over his 10 seasons with the Oilers, Semenko scored only 39 goals and 65 assists, but his physicality and willingness to defend his teammates made him an integral part of the team's success.
Despite retiring from professional hockey in 1988, Semenko remained a fixture within the hockey community. He worked for the Oilers as an ambassador and ran hockey schools in Alberta. In 2017, Semenko died of liver and pancreatic cancer at the age of 59. He is remembered both for his impressive career as a enforcer and his kind and generous spirit off the ice. Semenko will always be remembered as an important part of the Edmonton Oilers and NHL history.
