David Aebischer Autographs
David Aebischer is a retired Swiss professional ice hockey goaltender, born on February 7, 1978, in Switzerland. He began his career by playing for HC Fribourg-Gottéron before being drafted in 1997 in the sixth round, 161st overall, by the Colorado Avalanche. He moved to North America to play for the QMJHL's PEI Rocket in 1997 and remained there until the 1998-99 season. He was then assigned to Colorado's AHL affiliate Hershey Bears, where he played for a season before making his NHL debut with the Avalanche in March 2000.
Aebischer went on to play numerous games for the Colorado Avalanche in the following years. He recorded his first career NHL shutout on January 1, 2001. Aebischer became a back-to-back champion in 2001 and 2002 with the Avalanche, taking turns as the backup goalie and filling in when St. Patrick Roy was unable to start. During the 2003-2004 NHL season, Aebischer emerged as the Avalanche's starting goaltender, recording 32 wins and nine losses. However, in 2005, he was traded to the Montreal Canadiens, where he played for two seasons before being traded again to the Phoenix Coyotes.
Ultimately, Aebischer played for numerous teams in different leagues throughout his 20-year career, including teams like the Colorado Eagles, SCL Tigers, and HC Ambri-Piotta. He retired in 2018, after serving as head coach at EHC Biel in the Swiss National League. David Aebischer's dedicated and wonderful contributions to the game of hockey cannot be overlooked.
