Derek King Autographs
Derek King is a former professional ice hockey player hailing from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Born on September 11, 1967, he began playing organized hockey in his hometown as a child. King trained his hockey skills at Stoney Creek Minor Hockey, where he learned to be a versatile forward. With his skill and talent in the game of hockey, he proved worthy of making it to the big stage, scoring 261 goals and registering 351 assists in the National Hockey League (NHL).
King's professional hockey career began when he was drafted by the New York Islanders as the 13th overall pick in the 1985 NHL Entry Draft. He played with the Islanders for six seasons and became a top scorer for the team before being traded to the Hartford Whalers in 1991. With his career experience in the NHL, King obtained opportunities to participate in international competitions. He represented Canada in the 1992 Winter Olympics and was part of the Canadian team that won the silver medal at the 1986 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships held in Hamilton, Ontario.
Derek King retired from professional hockey in 2002 after spending 15 years in the NHL. After quitting hockey, he embarked on a new journey to be a coach. He began as an assistant coach with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2008 before being promoted to the role of assistant coach for the AHL's St. John's Maple Leafs. Derek King worked as an assistant coach in the NHL, AHL, OHL, and ECHL before being appointed head coach for the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL in 2021. His passion for the game of hockey still drives him to help aspiring hockey players.
