Derek Morris Autographs
Derek Morris is a former professional ice hockey player who was born on August 24, 1978, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. He began playing hockey at a young age and soon found his love for the game. Morris began his hockey career with the Red Deer Rebels of the Western Hockey League (WHL) in 1994. He played two seasons with the team and was named the WHL Scholastic Player of the Year in 1996.
In 1996, Morris was drafted by the Calgary Flames in the first round, 13th overall, at the NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut with the Flames in the 1997-98 season and played with Calgary for four seasons before being traded to the Colorado Avalanche in 2002. Morris played for the Avalanche for two seasons before being traded to the Phoenix Coyotes in 2004. He played with the Coyotes until 2009 when he was traded to the New York Rangers, where he finished his NHL career in 2013. Over the course of his 18-year career, Morris played in 1,024 regular-season games, scored 103 goals, and tallied 303 assists. He also played in 47 playoff games, scoring four goals and adding 11 assists. Despite being known for his offensive ability, Morris was also a solid defender, known for his physical play and ability to block shots.
After retiring from professional hockey, Morris joined the Phoenix Coyotes organization as a player development coach, where he worked with young prospects until 2017. He then joined the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) as a coach and general manager of the Notre Dame Hounds, a junior A team. Morris is widely respected in the hockey world for his knowledge and love of the game. His contributions to hockey, both as a player and coach, have left a lasting impact on the sport.
