Deryk Engelland Autographs
Deryk Engelland is a former ice hockey defenseman born on April 3, 1982, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Engelland has been playing hockey since he was five years old, starting as a forward before transitioning to defense. He played for Spruce Grove Saints of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) and the Moose Jaw Warriors of the Western Hockey League (WHL) before turning pro.
Engelland started his professional career with the Las Vegas Wranglers, a minor league affiliate of the Calgary Flames. He was then signed by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2009 for their AHL affiliate team in Wilkes-Barre Scranton. Engelland, during his time with the Penguins, was known for his physical play and toughness as a defenseman. He also became a player who could be trusted to play in important situations like the penalty kill.
In the 2011-2012 season, Engelland achieved his best season in terms of points, with 17 points in 73 games played. His steady play on the blue line for the Penguins earned him a 3-year contract extension in 2012. In the 2017-2018 season, he helped the Vegas Golden Knights reach the Stanley Cup Finals, in which they eventually lost to the Washington Capitals. After playing for the Golden Knights for three seasons, Engelland retired from the NHL on July 29, 2020. Over his 11-year NHL career, he played for three different teams, appearing in 671 games and recording 29 goals, 88 assists, and 817 penalty minutes.
