Dit Clapper Autographs
Dit Clapper was a Canadian professional ice hockey player who played for the Boston Bruins and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. Clapper was born on February 9, 1907, in Newmarket, Ontario, Canada. He is considered one of the greatest defensemen in NHL history, having played 20 seasons as a right wing or defenseman. Clapper was a dominant force on the ice, with a combination of skill, speed, and toughness that made him one of the most respected players of his time.
Clapper began his professional career with the Boston Bruins in 1927, playing as a forward, before switching to defense. He played for the Bruins for 16 seasons, from 1927 to 1947, during which he won three Stanley Cup championships for the team. Clapper was known for his hard-hitting style of play, and his toughness and grit made a significant impact on the Bruins' success. In 1943, he became the first player to play 800 games in the NHL, and in 1946, he became the first defenseman to score 200 goals.
After retiring as a player, Clapper stayed on with the Bruins as a coach for three seasons, from 1947 to 1950. He later became the team's Assistant General Manager, a position he held until his retirement in 1966. He continued to be involved in hockey as a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame Selection Committee and as a special ambassador for the sport. Clapper passed away on January 20, 1978, at the age of 70, but his legacy as a highly skilled and respected hockey player lives on.
