Doug Lidster is a former professional ice hockey player who played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for a period of 16 years. Lidster was born on October 18, 1960, in Kamloops, British Columbia. He was drafted by the Vancouver Canucks in the eighth round of the 1980 NHL Entry Draft, as the 133rd overall pick. Lidster made his NHL debut during the 1983-84 season and played for the Canucks till 1993. He also played for other NHL teams like the New York Rangers, St. Louis Blues, and the Dallas Stars, winning two Stanley Cup championships in the process. During his time with the Canucks, Lidster played an important role as a defenseman on the team's "smothering defense". He was instrumental in the team's successful run to the Stanley Cup Finals in 1982, scoring 7 points in 17 playoff games. In the 1993-94 season, Lidster joined the New York Rangers and helped them win the Stanley Cup that year. In the final series, he scored an overtime goal in Game 3, helping the Rangers secure a 2-1 win over the Vancouver Canucks.
