Doug Soetaert Autographs
Doug Soetaert, born on July 13, 1952, in Fort William, Ontario, is a retired ice hockey goaltender who played for numerous National Hockey League (NHL) teams, including the Kansas City Scouts, Colorado Rockies, Calgary Flames, and Montreal Canadiens. Soetaert played his junior hockey with the Calgary Centennials of the Western Canada Hockey League (WCHL) and was selected by the Scouts in the third round of the 1972 NHL Amateur Draft. He spent four seasons with the Scouts, Rockies, and Flames, achieving his best career season in 1979–1980 with a 3.11 goals-against average and making it to the playoffs for the first time in his career.
Following his success with the Flames, Soetaert was traded to the Montreal Canadiens, where he continued to excel as a goaltender. Over his time with the Canadiens, Soetaert played in a total of 164 games with a 2.98 goals-against average and an impressive 49-87-22 record. He also participated in 15 playoff games with the Canadiens, going 5-10 with a 2.85 goals-against average. Soetaert helped the Canadiens capture the Prince of Wales Trophy in 1984 and made a significant contribution to the Canadiens reaching the Stanley Cup Finals in the same year.
After retiring from professional ice hockey, Soetaert coached for many years, including serving as the interim head coach for the Tampa Bay Lightning in 1999. In addition to his work as a coach, Soetaert also worked as a broadcaster for the Winnipeg Jets Radio Network. Overall, Doug Soetaert is remembered for his contributions to the NHL and his achievements as a goaltender with several teams, including the Montreal Canadiens.
