Doug Weight is a retired professional ice hockey player from the United States. Born on January 21, 1971, in Detroit, Michigan, Weight grew up in St. Clair Shores, where he began to play for the St. Clair Shores Saints, a local hockey team. His talent and passion for the game quickly became apparent, and he decided to pursue a career in ice hockey. After college, Weight entered the NHL as a second-round pick for the New York Rangers in 1990. He spent three seasons with the Rangers before being traded to the Edmonton Oilers in 1993. It was with the Oilers that Weight began to make a name for himself as a skilled center, and he soon became the team's captain. In 2001, he was traded to the St. Louis Blues, where he played for six seasons and recorded some of his best statistics. Weight then played for the Carolina Hurricanes and the Anaheim Ducks before returning to the St. Louis Blues for a final season in 2010-2011. He retired from the NHL as one of the most respected and accomplished centers in the league.

Throughout his career, Doug Weight was a 4-time NHL All-Star, a Stanley Cup champion in 2006, and one of the most respected players in the league. He scored a total of 278 goals, had 755 assists, and recorded 1,033 points in 1,238 NHL games. After retiring as a player, Weight remained in the hockey world and became an assistant coach for the New York Islanders. He eventually became the team's head coach in 2017, a position he held until 2020.
