Ed Giacomin Autographs

Ed Giacomin was a professional ice hockey goaltender. He was born on June 6, 1939 in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. Giacomin began his career in 1959 with the St. Catharines Teepees in the Ontario Junior Hockey League. He was later signed by the National Hockey League (NHL) team New York Rangers in 1965. Giacomin made an immediate impact on the Rangers, leading the team to the playoffs in each of his first five seasons. He was known for his quick reflexes and fearless play on the ice, earning him the moniker “Eddie the Cat”. Giacomin was also renowned for his signature mask, which he designed himself.
During his 12 seasons with the New York Rangers, Giacomin became one of the team’s most decorated goalies. He won the Vezina Trophy in 1971 and was a seven-time All-Star. Giacomin also helped the Rangers reach the Stanley Cup finals in 1972, although they ultimately lost to the Boston Bruins in six games. In 1975, Giacomin was traded to the Detroit Red Wings, where he played for two seasons before being traded to the Buffalo Sabres in 1977. He retired from hockey in 1978 with a record of 289 wins, 209 losses, and 90 ties.
After retiring, Giacomin became a broadcaster and a coach. He served as the coach of several minor league hockey teams before becoming a goaltending coach for the New York Islanders in 1986. Giacomin was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1987 and is widely regarded as one of the greatest goalies in Rangers history. He passed away on March 4, 2020 at the age of 80.
