Ed Johnston Autographs
Ed Johnston was a legendary goaltender who played for the National Hockey League (NHL) in his career spanning over 16 seasons. Born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, in 1935, Johnston started his hockey career with the Ontario Hockey Association before moving up to the NHL. From 1955 to 1975, he played for the Boston Bruins, Toronto Maple Leafs, and the St. Louis Blues. Nicknamed "Eddie the Jet," he was known for his exceptional reflexes and quickness in the goal.
Johnston had many notable achievements in his hockey career, which included two Stanley Cup Championships with the Boston Bruins. He played a prominent role in the championship-winning team during the 1969-70 season, where he posted his career-best goals-against average of 2.24. He was also a valuable member of the team that won the Stanley Cup in 1971-72, where he won 30 games in the regular season and went 8-2 during the playoffs, posting a 1.98 goals-against average. Johnston's record of 57 games played in a single season for a Bruins goaltender stood for several years, showcasing his remarkable durability.
After his playing career was over, Johnston transitioned into a successful coaching career. He coached several teams, including the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Hartford Whalers, and was instrumental in building the Penguins team that eventually won back-to-back Stanley Cup championships in the early 1990s. Johnston's contributions to the NHL community have been acknowledged, and in 1992, he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, cementing his status as one of the greatest goaltenders in NHL history.
