During his career, Jovanovski was considered one of the best defensemen in the NHL, and he eventually became the captain of the Vancouver Canucks. He played for six different teams throughout his career, including the Florida Panthers, Vancouver Canucks, Phoenix Coyotes, and the Florida Panthers for his second stint. He helped the Canucks reach the Stanley Cup Finals in 2011, but they eventually lost to the Boston Bruins.

In 2014, Jovanovski announced his retirement from professional hockey. He finished his career with 1,128 games played, 137 goals, 363 assists, and 500 points. Jovanovski remains an important figure in the hockey world, and he was inducted into the British Columbia Hockey Hall of Fame in 2017.
