Eddie Giacomin Autographs
Eddie Giacomin was born on June 6, 1939, in Sudbury, Ontario. He began playing hockey as a young child and showed great promise as a goaltender. After playing junior hockey for the St. Catharines Teepees, he turned professional and played for the Providence Reds of the American Hockey League.
In 1965, he was traded to the New York Rangers, where he would spend the next ten seasons. During his time with the Rangers, Giacomin established himself as one of the premier goaltenders in the NHL. He was a three-time All-Star, won the Vezina Trophy as the league's best goaltender in 1971 and was a finalist for the award four other times. Giacomin led the Rangers to the Stanley Cup Finals in 1972 but ultimately fell short to the Boston Bruins.
After leaving the Rangers in 1975, Giacomin played three seasons for the Detroit Red Wings before retiring from the NHL in 1978. He finished his career with 289 wins, a 2.84 goals-against average, and 54 shutouts. In 1987, he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Today, Eddie Giacomin is considered one of the greatest goaltenders in New York Rangers history and is still beloved by fans for his outstanding play on the ice.
