Fred Cusick Autograph

Fred Cusick was a sports broadcaster who is best known for his work in hockey. Born in November 1918 in Flemington, New Jersey, Cusick spent most of his life working in broadcasting. He studied broadcasting and journalism at the University of Michigan and began his career as an announcer for the college's football and basketball teams. Cusick's first job as a full-time hockey broadcaster was with the Boston Bruins in 1952, and he remained with the team for 45 years. He became known for his signature phrases, such as "score!" and "save by Cheevers," which became part of the vernacular for hockey fans in Boston and beyond. Cusick was also the voice of many Stanley Cup playoffs and Olympic games, including the 1980 "Miracle on Ice" when the United States Men's Olympic Hockey Team defeated the Soviet Union.

Throughout his career, Cusick was known for his professionalism and skill in painting a picture of the game on the radio or television. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1984, and the broadcasting award for the Massachusetts Hockey Coaches Association is named in his honor. He retired from broadcasting in 1997 and passed away in 2009, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most beloved and talented hockey broadcasters of all time.
