Frederik Andersen is a Danish professional ice hockey goaltender who is currently playing for the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League (NHL). Andersen was born on October 2, 1989, in Herning, Denmark, where he started playing hockey at an early age. After impressing several scouts with his skills on the ice as a teenager, Andersen was offered a spot to play junior hockey in Herning Blue Fox.
In the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, Frederik Andersen was selected by the Anaheim Ducks in the third round, becoming the first Danish-born goaltender to be drafted into the league. Andersen played for the Ducks for the next three seasons, earning the starting position and leading the team to the playoffs in each of those seasons. He also represented Denmark in the 2014 and 2018 Winter Olympics as well as in several International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Championships. In 2016, Andersen signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs, where he has since established himself as a top goaltender in the league. During the 2019-2020 season, Andersen set a new career-high in saves with 52 against the Florida Panthers.
