Armstrong's career with the Leafs was filled with highlights. He played in seven All-Star games, won four Stanley Cups, and was one of the top scorers on the team. However, his leadership skills were the most significant contribution, as he helped lead the team to success year after year. His leadership skills were particularly evident when the Leafs played against the Montreal Canadiens. Montreal was known for their physical style of play, but Armstrong's leadership and toughness helped the Leafs stand up to their rivals, and they won several games against them.

Armstrong retired in 1971, and the Leafs retired his number 10 jersey in honor of his contributions to the team. He remained with the organization in a front-office role until his retirement from hockey entirely in 1991. George Armstrong was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1975 in recognition of his immense contributions to the sport. Despite playing over fifty years ago, his legacy still lives on and serves as an inspiration to many young players in Canada and around the world.
