Gerry Desjardins Autographs
Gerry Desjardins is a former professional ice hockey goaltender who played in the National Hockey League (NHL) from 1971 to 1979. He was born on June 14, 1944, in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. Desjardins began his professional career in the minor leagues after being drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in 1970. In 1972, he was picked up by the New York Islanders where he played for three seasons before being traded to the Minnesota North Stars in 1975.
With the Islanders, Desjardins played a significant role in the team's playoff run in the 1975-1976 season. He recorded two shutouts in the semi-finals, leading the Islanders to a Stanley Cup final appearance for the first time in franchise history. However, the team lost to the Montreal Canadiens in four games, and Desjardins was traded the following year. In Minnesota, Desjardins struggled and was eventually traded to the Detroit Red Wings in 1978, where he played for one season before retiring in 1979.
Throughout his career, Desjardins played in a total of 320 NHL games, recording 131 wins, 139 losses, and 32 ties. He had a career goals-against average of 3.25 and 14 shutouts. After retiring, Desjardins worked as a goaltending coach for the Detroit Red Wings and the Quebec Nordiques. He later became the Vice President and General Manager of the St. Jerome Panthers of the Quebec Junior AAA Hockey League. Gerry Desjardins continues to be an important figure in the hockey world and is remembered for his contributions to the sport.
