Gilles Gratton Autographs
Gilles Gratton is a former Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender, who played for several teams during his career in the National Hockey League (NHL) and the World Hockey Association (WHA). Born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada in 1952, Gratton began playing hockey at a young age and developed a passion for the sport. Though he played several positions during his early career, he ultimately became a full-time goaltender and quickly established himself as one of the best in his league.
Gratton was drafted 27th overall by the Boston Bruins in the 1972 NHL Amateur Draft. He made his NHL debut in the 1973-74 season for the Bruins, where he earned a reputation for his eccentric behavior both on and off the ice. He played for Boston for one season before being traded to the St. Louis Blues, where he played for two seasons. After that, Gratton played for several teams, including the New York Rangers, the Vancouver Canucks, and the Buffalo Sabres. He also played for the Cincinnati Stingers in the WHA. Overall, Gratton played in 279 NHL games and 47 WHA games, recording a career 3.00 goals against average.
Despite his behavior and unorthodox goaltending style, Gratton was a skilled goaltender who had some notable achievements during his career. He was named an NHL All-Star in the 1976-77 season when he played for the Sabres. He was also part of the Canadian team that won the bronze medal in the 1978 IIHF World Championships. Gratton retired from professional hockey in 1984 and went on to pursue other interests, including painting and writing.
