Grant Fuhr is a former NHL goaltender who needs no introduction to the avid hockey fan. Born in Spruce Grove, Alberta, Fuhr was known for his speed, athleticism, and a penchant for making awe-inspiring saves. Fuhr made his NHL debut in 1981 with the Edmonton Oilers after being selected eighth overall in the 1981 NHL Entry Draft.
Fuhr played for 19 seasons across six teams, including the Edmonton Oilers, Toronto Maple Leafs, Buffalo Sabres, Calgary Flames, St. Louis Blues, and finally, the Los Angeles Kings. However, it was his time with the Oilers that propelled Fuhr to superstardom. In his 10 seasons with the Oilers, Fuhr helped lead the team to five Stanley Cup championships, earning himself a reputation as one of the greatest goalies of all time.
Fuhr's impressive career garnered him numerous awards and accolades, including the Vezina Trophy in 1988, an NHL All-Star selection six times, and induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2003. Fuhr retired as the all-time leader in games played by an NHL goal-tender and was credited with blazing a trail for more diverse and multi-talented players in the league.
